Are Chemical Peels Really Suitable for Every Skin Tone? Meet the New AlumierMD Peels at Freya MediSpa
By Saima Ikram | Freya MediSpa & Wellness, NW Calgary
Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered why your skin looks dull, feels rough, or doesn't seem to have the same glow it once did?
Maybe your makeup isn't sitting as smoothly. Perhaps you're noticing uneven skin tone, fine lines or a buildup of dead skin cells that your regular skincare routine doesn't seem to improve.
And you've probably heard someone recommend a chemical peel.
But then come the questions: Will my skin actually peel? Is it painful? Could it make my pigmentation worse? Is it even suitable for my skin tone?
These are questions we hear at Freya MediSpa & Wellness, and they're exactly why we believe understanding your skin should always come before choosing a treatment.
We're excited to introduce three professional AlumierMD chemical peels at our clinic in Edgemont, NW Calgary.
Meet Our Three New AlumierMD Chemical Peels

Radiant 30 — For dullness, uneven texture and brighter-looking skin
Radiant 30 is an exfoliating chemical peel designed to refresh the skin's surface, improve texture and restore a more radiant appearance. This is the peel we're exploring in today's blog.
BHA 20 — For oily, congested and acne-prone skin

Formulated with 20% salicylic acid, BHA 20 helps exfoliate within oily pores, making it particularly useful for concerns such as blackheads, congestion and excess oil.
Glow Peel — For more intensive skin resurfacing

Glow Peel is a self-neutralizing professional peel designed to address concerns such as uneven pigmentation, sun damage, acne-related marks and visible signs of aging. It requires careful preparation and aftercare.
Each peel has a different purpose. And that's important, because the best chemical peel isn't necessarily the strongest one. It's the one that suits your skin.
Let's Talk About Radiant 30: What Makes This Peel Special?
Radiant 30 is a professional exfoliating treatment that uses 30% lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), to help remove accumulated dead skin cells from the surface of the skin.
Our skin naturally sheds old cells and replaces them with new ones. But as we age, or when our skin is affected by environmental stress, this process can become less efficient.
The result? Skin that looks tired, feels uneven or lacks its usual radiance.
Radiant 30 helps loosen the bonds between dead surface skin cells so they can shed more effectively, revealing smoother, fresher-looking skin underneath.
And because lactic acid also has water-attracting properties, it can be a useful ingredient when we're looking to improve the appearance of dull, dry-feeling skin.
What Can Radiant 30 Help Improve?
1. Dull, tired-looking skin
If your complexion has lost its brightness, exfoliating accumulated dead skin cells can help restore a fresher, more luminous appearance.
2. Uneven skin texture
Rough patches and surface buildup can make skin feel less smooth. Radiant 30 helps refine the skin's surface, which may also help makeup apply more evenly.
3. The appearance of fine lines
By improving surface texture and encouraging skin renewal, Radiant 30 may help soften the appearance of superficial fine lines.
4. Uneven skin tone
The peel can help improve the appearance of some forms of superficial discoloration, although pigmentation concerns such as melasma require a more individualized approach.
5. Skin that needs a seasonal refresh
Living in Calgary means dealing with dry air, changing temperatures and environmental stress. If your skin looks dull as the seasons change, professional exfoliation may be worth considering but only when your skin barrier is ready.
Is Radiant 30 Suitable for Darker Skin Tones?
This is an important conversation for us at Freya.
Many people with medium to deeper skin tones have been told to avoid chemical peels altogether. Others have experienced irritation or pigmentation after treatments that weren't properly selected for their skin.
The truth is that skin tone alone shouldn't determine whether someone can benefit from professional exfoliation.
Radiant 30 may be an option across Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI when the skin is appropriately assessed, prepared and treated.
However, suitability doesn't mean every client should receive the same protocol.
At Freya, we consider your skin tone, history of hyperpigmentation, sensitivity, current skincare products and overall barrier health before recommending any peel.
Sometimes the right first step is not a chemical peel at all. It may be strengthening your skin barrier and preparing your skin for treatment.
What Should You Expect After Radiant 30?
Your skin may feel smoother and look brighter after a treatment, although results vary.
Some clients experience temporary redness, tightness, dryness or light flaking. Not everyone experiences visible peeling, and you don't need to see sheets of skin peeling away for a treatment to have an effect.
Aftercare is just as important as the peel itself. Gentle skincare, hydration, daily broad-spectrum SPF and avoiding irritating exfoliating products until your skin has recovered all help support the treatment process.
For concerns such as uneven tone or persistent roughness, a series of treatments may be recommended rather than expecting one appointment to do everything.
So, Is Radiant 30 the Right Chemical Peel for You?
At Freya, we don't believe in recommending a treatment simply because it's new or popular.
Radiant 30 is an exciting addition to our professional skincare treatments, but what matters most is whether it addresses your concerns safely and effectively.
Whether you're dealing with dullness, uneven texture, early fine lines or simply want to understand why your skin no longer looks the way it used to, we're here to help you find the right starting point.
Your skin deserves more than a one-size-fits-all treatment. It deserves answers first.
